Chiropractic is the branch of medical care that focuses on the correlation between good health and the structure of the nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves that extend from the spine to all sections of the body). Chiropractic stresses the understanding that with a normally functioning spine and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. The examination of the spine to evaluate health conditions is what makes chiropractic unique from other forms of health care.

But why is the spine so important? Your spinal cord consists of a complex network of nerves, whose life essential messages sustain every aspect of your body. Tension along the spinal column resulting from accidents, fatigue, or stress, hinders the body's nervous system's ability to control feeling, movement, and function. Take, for example, a few of the more immediate side effects of spinal tension.

Bones in your spine can misalign, irritating your nerves or causing muscles to stretch unnaturaly. Joints throughout the vertebrate can lock up and cause back and neck pains.
The supportive disks between vertebrate can swell abnormally, putting pressure on the spinal cord. This can lead to numbness or pain in all parts of the body.
The Spine's supportive muscles and ligaments can become stretched, torn, or displaced, crippling vertebrate maneuverability.
Nerves can become irritated or pinched, resulting in acute pain, numbness or tingling sensations.
Furthermore, extensive studies on long term effects have shown a correlation between "minor curvatures" of the spine and the failures of internal organs. 96% of these diseased organs belonged to the same nerve segments from the vertebrate out of line, and included problems such as heart disease, lung disease, stomach disease, liver disease, gallstone disease, kidney failure, and others. In short, a healthy spine is essential.

Chiropractic methods look to address such problems in the body by examining a patient's overall health - including physical and mental wellbeing as well as lifestyle habits, rather than through use of drugs, which merely mask symptoms. The use of frequent spinal adjustments along with related treatments relives pressure on nerves, restores alignment, improves mobility, and relives pain.
